The JOURNAL OF INTERDISCIPLINARY HEALTH STUDIES (JOIHS), is an Open Access journal and publishes original research papers, reviews, case reports, short communications/brief original article, and letters to the editor with priority for high-quality original papers.
Interdisciplinary Health Studies
The challenges of the health field are so complex that no disciplines alone can provide effective and sustainable solutions for them. The lack of complete pain relief for many sufferers and the limitations of single-disciplinary systems have made them resort to the knowledge of different and multi-disciplinary fields. Therefore, this has caused holistic thinking and teamwork to become increasingly prevalent in health researches, services, education and policy making. Therefore, the three main areas of interdisciplinary health activities that have many benefits for patients or those who refer to health care centers, health care professionals and health care systems are: health care, education and research.
“Multidisciplinary” and “interdisciplinary” deal with as essential needs of the new complex world that requires information, studies and necessary coordination. Therefore, special attention is paid to the knowledge of interdisciplinary studies that cross traditional boundaries and provide a comprehensive understanding of contemporary health issues, biological and social determinants, human sciences and the impact of policy on health, and is focused on social sciences and applied health so that the background, knowledge and interdisciplinary skills are provided for entering health-related fields of study and employment. Multidisciplinary knowledge includes different disciplines that maintain their traditional boundaries, but interdisciplinary sciences go beyond these boundaries. In general, there are two main areas for interdisciplinary health studies as follows:
Main Streams of Interdisciplinary Health Studies
A-Social Sciences and Health
This field is based on the conditions in which the members of the society spend their lives from birth to the moment of death, as well as a wider set of powers (e.g., policies) and systems (e.g., norms) overseeing everyday issues. The most important sub-branches of social science and health are as follows:
1- Human Sciences and Health
This interdisciplinary field deal with sociology and health (it deals with the scientific study of society), anthropology and health (it deals with the study of health, disease and treatment in human societies and the relationships between culture, behavior, health and disease) describes, interprets and evaluates) and political science and health (deals with issues related to government and politics and focuses on the access of members of society to health facilities without any discrimination).
2- Religion, Spirituality and Health
This interdisciplinary field deals with the study of a comprehensive guide for health based on religion and jurisprudence with a religious trend that is related to all aspects of human life as an acceptable pattern.
3- Management and Policy Making in Health
This interdisciplinary field studies the role of leadership in health care service organizations and the management of health care organizations and cultural diversity, records and information systems. It is focused.
4- Health Law and Bioethics
This interdisciplinary field has been formed by emphasizing the role of doctors as the only group responsible for patient care and expanding it to duty of governance and all health care professionals and paying special attention to the ethical and legal issues of the health-oriented service and goods.
5- Geography, Environment and Health
This interdisciplinary field is devoted to the study of the impact of environmental, physical, natural and social factors on public health and on the effects of water, polluted soil, place, climate and so on. It focuses on occupational health and safety and human societies. For example, global mapping of cancer has shown us the effect of industrialization on the occurrence of this disease.
6- Health Economics and Financial Management
This interdisciplinary field studies as one of the determining elements in many industries, including the health industry access to health goods and services by paying attention to budgeting, health insurance and compensation for their reimbursement costs, intellectual property rights, fair competition, fraud and abuse, counterfeiting and smuggling.
B- Applied Studies of Health Sciences
The market of health goods and services needs planning, research, education, policy making and treatment intervention by health care specialists in the following interdisciplinary fields to prevent disease and help treatment. The most important sub-branches of applied science and health are as follows:
1- Health Information Technology / Management of Health Information
This interdisciplinary field deals with the application of information processing, including computer and electronic systems, improving protection and access to personal data, as well as reducing errors and related costs, which is related to storing, retrieving, sharing and using information. and deals with health equipment and Artificial Intelligence.
2- Integrative Medicine and Healthcare (Traditional, Complementary, Alternative Medicine, Holistic & Integrative Approach)
This interdisciplinary field studies the science and art of human treatment social welfare using a variety of health care methods in modern and traditional fields that have evolved to maintain and restore health through disease prevention and treatment. As one of the most important pioneers of medicine holistic approach to health and well-being has a comprehensive and integrated view of the patient, so that "the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not just the absence of illness or disability" is directly related.
3- Forensic Sciences and Health
This interdisciplinary field studies Among the main branches of medical science and criminal law the diagnosis of the cause of death, the identity of the deceased, the time of death, the severity and form of injuries, or the serious physical and mental injuries caused as the most important parts of criminal and judicial sciences, which in many criminal cases such as murder, sexual assault, rape, etc. occur so that with the presence of criminal medicine, toxicology, chemistry, psychiatry, pathology, etc. Crime becomes more prominent.
4- Science of Food Industry and Agriculture
This interdisciplinary field is based on the importance of guaranteeing the quality of food products and medicinal plants to help the health system and its field starts from overlapping with agricultural and nutrition sciences, chemistry, physics, physiology, microbiology and biochemistry.
5- Health Tourism and Entrepreneurship
This interdisciplinary field deals with the study of international travel with regard to the necessity and inevitability of access to medical information and services in the age of the global village as an important issue for national health care systems and a global health perspective.
6- Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences
This interdisciplinary field deals with the health of certain aspects of human beings, such as intelligence, mind, state and thought, as well as the optimality of physical, mental and social states beyond the absence of mental disorders and perception, self-efficacy, independence and autonomy, adequacy and competence, intergenerational dependence, self-actualization, potential intellectual and emotional capabilities.
